In Lahore, several unfortunate incidents linked to kite flying during Basant resulted in the death of one person and injuries to five others, turning the festive occasion into a tragic experience for several families across the city.
According to rescue officials, in the Baghbanpura area near Sukh Nehr, a 25-year-old man, Ali Rasheed, climbed an electricity pole in an attempt to retrieve a cut kite. During the attempt, he suffered a severe electric shock and died on the spot, leaving residents of the area in deep shock and sorrow.
Meanwhile, in Defence Phase 5, a young man named Rafi was injured when a kite string wrapped around his neck. He was promptly shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Similarly, in Gulshan-e-Ravi, an 8-year-old girl, Arsa, and a 45-year-old man, Shabbir, were also injured after being struck by kite strings, and rescue teams provided immediate assistance.
Rescue officials further reported that in the Lower Mall area, a 12-year-old boy, Abdul Wahid, sustained injuries while chasing a kite. In another incident in Gulshan-e-Ravi, a 14-year-old boy, Salman, was injured while attempting to remove a kite from a tree. All injured individuals were given first aid and taken to hospitals, where their condition is stated to be stable.
Rescue authorities have urged citizens to exercise caution during Basant celebrations and avoid activities that may endanger their own lives or the safety of others.
