Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara has thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for granting permission to play the T20 World Cup match against India, describing the decision as significant for the continuity of cricket.
Following a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Anura Kumara said in a social media statement that the Pakistani prime minister played a key role in ensuring the Pakistan–India match. He expressed gratitude for supporting the continuation of a sport loved by millions of fans around the world.
The Sri Lankan president also expressed satisfaction, stating that the Pakistan–India match scheduled in Colombo will be played as planned, with all arrangements remaining unchanged.
Earlier, a telephone conversation took place between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Anura Kumara, during which the Sri Lankan president requested permission for Pakistan to play the match against India.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the sentiments of the Sri Lankan president and recalled that Sri Lanka extended full cooperation to Pakistan during difficult times and ensured the continuity of international cricket in the country. He had assured President Anura Kumara that a final decision regarding the Pakistan–India match would be conveyed after consultations.
