Ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, flour prices in Balochistan have recorded a sharp and significant increase, placing additional financial pressure on citizens across the province. The price of one kilogram of flour has risen to Rs150, affecting household budgets, particularly those of low- and middle-income families.
According to flour mill owners, people will have to continue purchasing expensive flour for at least two more months until the arrival of the new wheat crop. Currently, a 20-kilogram flour bag is available between Rs3,000 and Rs3,500, reflecting a considerable rise compared to previous rates.
Flour mill representatives have expressed concern that restrictions imposed by Sindh and Punjab have led to a shortage of wheat in Balochistan, directly impacting supply and driving up prices in local markets.
Meanwhile, the suspension of wheat procurement by the Food Department has raised fears of a possible flour crisis during Ramadan, which could further worsen the situation.
Citizens have urged the government to ensure adequate availability of flour and take immediate steps to reduce prices so that relief can be provided to the public during the holy month.
