The purchase of an aircraft by the Punjab government came under discussion during a session of the Punjab Assembly, leading to heated exchanges in the house.
During the question hour related to the Information Department, tensions rose when Pakistan Peoples Party member Shazia Abid questioned whether the Chief Minister would use an 11 billion rupee aircraft to visit Rajanpur.
In response, Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari stated that if Bilawal Bhutto can travel on the Sindh government’s aircraft, then this is the aircraft of the Punjab government and its use falls under the government’s discretion. She emphasized that the matter is a decision for the provincial administration.
Opposition Leader Moeen Riaz Qureshi later asked under which head the aircraft had been purchased and what necessity justified the acquisition. Opposition members staged a protest by making paper planes and waving them inside the assembly in objection to the government’s decision.
The Speaker of the Punjab Assembly remarked that if it were his responsibility to respond, he would justify the aircraft purchase, but clarifying the matter was not his role.
During the session, opposition members also raised concerns about Imran Khan’s health and imprisonment, to which government member Rana Arshad responded that critics should also reflect on their own tenure in power.
Meanwhile, government member Ahsan Raza used inappropriate language regarding the founding chairman of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf, prompting uproar in the house. The Speaker intervened and directed that the unparliamentary remarks be expunged from the record, stating that the use of improper language against political leaders is unacceptable.
