Key details have emerged regarding the opening and final matches of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 to be hosted by Saudi Arabia. According to foreign media reports, three-time Asian champion Saudi Arabia will host this major football event for the first time in 2027, marking an important milestone ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2034.
Officials have announced that the opening match and the final of the tournament, scheduled from January 7 to February 5, will be held at the King Fahd Sports City Stadium in Riyadh. The Asian Football Confederation confirmed in a statement that the stadium will serve as the main venue for both the opening and closing matches.
The stadium, which has a seating capacity of over 70,000 spectators, will also host four group stage matches, one pre quarter final, and one quarter final. The final is set to be played in early February.
A total of eight venues have been designated for the tournament, with Riyadh’s stadium being the largest. Matches will also be played in Jeddah and Al Khobar.
According to the AFC, the final match schedule and timings will be announced on April 11 during the official draw ceremony in Riyadh.
It is noteworthy that Qatar, the host of the 2022 World Cup, also hosted the Asian Cup two years ago and successfully defended the title. The tournament was originally scheduled to take place in China in 2023 but was relocated due to the country’s COVID policies at that time.
