The Sindh government has immediately implemented a four-day work week under which government offices will now remain open from Monday to Thursday, while Friday, Saturday, and Sunday will be observed as holidays. According to the official notification, the decision has been taken as part of austerity measures and to promote energy conservation.
The notification states that fuel consumption for government vehicles has been reduced by 50 percent, while 60 percent of official vehicles have been directed to remain non-operational for two months. In addition, the purchase of new government vehicles has been banned until June to reduce public expenditures.
The government has also directed that official events, dinners, and iftar parties will not be held, while all government meetings will be conducted online to minimize unnecessary expenses and movement.
According to the notification, provincial ministers will not receive their salaries and benefits for the next three months, while officers in Grade 20 and above have been requested to voluntarily forgo two days of their salaries.
The government has also directed the private sector to implement a four-day work week, while institutions have been allowed to permit 50 percent of their employees to work from home in order to reduce energy consumption.
Regarding educational institutions, the notification states that schools will observe spring holidays from March 16 to March 31, while colleges and universities will conduct all classes fully online.
In addition, new restrictions have been introduced for wedding events, under which the number of guests will be limited to 200 and only one dish will be allowed to be served during the ceremonies.
