The Power Division is considering introducing a new optional multi-tariff system for industrial consumers, aiming to manage electricity usage more efficiently across different time periods and reduce pressure on the power system.
According to the spokesperson, industrial users will be given the option to choose different electricity rates based on time usage, while fixed charges will be determined based on maximum demand to ensure better system management.
The spokesperson stated that industries will be encouraged to use more electricity during off-peak hours, which is expected to reduce pressure during peak demand periods and improve overall system efficiency.
He added that access to cheaper electricity could boost industrial production and enhance competitiveness in global markets, benefiting the economy.
The Power Division has also decided to consult stakeholders on the proposed tariff system, including industrial consumers and chambers of commerce, with the first online consultation conference scheduled for March 26.
The spokesperson said that power sector reforms are expected to support long-term economic growth, and the new tariff system will promote energy conservation and efficient usage.
