Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that petrol and diesel prices will remain unchanged in the country.
Addressing the nation, he stated that a proposal was presented to increase petrol prices by Rs95 and diesel by Rs203, which he rejected.
He said the federal government has decided to bear an additional financial burden of Rs56 billion this week to provide relief to the public.
The Prime Minister explained that petrol should have been priced at Rs544 per liter under current conditions, but the government is providing it at Rs322 per liter. Similarly, diesel should have cost Rs790 per liter, but it is being supplied at Rs335 per liter.
In his address, he emphasized that ensuring the economic protection of the public remains his top priority, and the government has shielded citizens from the global surge in petroleum prices, which have significantly increased worldwide.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan is actively engaged on the diplomatic front to promote peace in the region, working continuously and effectively on multiple fronts.
He added that efforts are being made to protect the region and friendly countries from any devastating conflict through ongoing diplomatic engagement.
The Prime Minister stated that he has held detailed discussions with the leadership of Iran and Gulf countries on several occasions, adding that Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts are not only an international responsibility but also a religious duty.
He further said that Ishaq Dar is working with dedication and sincerity, while Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir is also playing a key role in this process.
