White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt has stated that President Donald Trump aims to secure a deal with Iran before the April 6 deadline, while claiming progress in ongoing discussions.
During a press briefing, she said that constructive talks are taking place regarding the Iran conflict and that Iran has agreed to some U.S. proposals, though further evaluation will be conducted.
She noted that there is a difference between private discussions and public statements, and that Iran’s conveyed positions will be carefully assessed before making final decisions.
Leavitt added that President Trump may ask Arab countries to contribute to the costs of the war, and a proposal is under consideration for Gulf nations to share the financial burden, though a final decision will rest with the President.
She clarified that the United States does not support Iran imposing toll taxes in the Strait of Hormuz, and expressed expectations that around 20 oil tankers will pass through the strait in the coming days.
According to the spokesperson, the U.S. has allowed Russia to send an oil tanker to Cuba on humanitarian grounds, while maintaining that there has been no change in U.S. policy toward Cuba.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei denied reports of direct negotiations, stating that no direct talks have taken place and that messages have been exchanged through intermediaries.
