Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Memon has stated that women traveling in private taxis often face harassment, which is why a pink taxi service is being introduced where both drivers and passengers will be women.
Speaking at an event, he said that the EV pink scooter initiative aims to empower women, and the Sindh government is providing free pink scooters, a facility not offered by other provinces.
He revealed that 20,000 women have applied for driving licenses, and the government is also offering free licenses and training to help women become self-reliant.
Memon added that electric buses are operating successfully, with more expected to be added to the system to improve urban transport.
He emphasized that governments should prioritize job creation, encouraging investors to invest in the Dhabeji Economic Zone to boost industries and employment.
The minister said promoting EV technology is essential, and EV manufacturing should be established in Dhabeji Economic Zone. He noted that President Asif Ali Zardari also highlighted investment opportunities in EV during his visit to China.
He further stated that while Pakistan is gaining global attention, rising oil prices are impacting all sectors, contributing to inflation. A meeting was also held at the Presidency to discuss relief measures for the public.
Sharjeel Memon stressed the importance of maintaining a responsible approach toward the country, even in challenging times.
