US President Donald Trump has indicated the possibility of taking control of Iran’s stored enriched uranium, but defense experts have termed any such potential US military operation as extremely dangerous.
According to details, Iran possesses more than 400 kilograms of enriched uranium, and US leadership is considering various options to seize it. Although a military raid by US forces on a secret underground nuclear facility appears unrealistic, President Donald Trump is reportedly reviewing this option.
Trump stated that Iran’s uranium enriched up to 60 percent is buried deep underground, making it very difficult to access. However, the United States is still evaluating possible ways to take control of it.
According to international media and researchers, at the beginning of the war that started on February 28, Iran had approximately 440 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 60 percent, which could be relatively easily increased to 90 percent to reach weapons-grade level.
In addition, Iran possesses nearly 1,000 kilograms of uranium enriched up to 20 percent and around 8,500 kilograms enriched to 3.6 percent, indicating the scale of its nuclear program.
Researchers suggest that most of Iran’s high-grade enriched uranium, which can be converted into bomb or missile material, is likely stored in Isfahan. This facility is among three underground nuclear sites that were targeted in airstrikes by the United States and Israel last year.
Defense experts further stated that Iran has significantly reinforced its underground facilities. In Isfahan, tunnel entrances have been sealed with soil, making any potential US military mission not only difficult but nearly impossible, as heavy machinery would be required to clear debris, all while facing the risk of possible Iranian retaliatory strikes.
