During his visit to Algeria, Pope Leo, the spiritual leader of Catholics, visited a grand mosque where he removed his shoes and walked barefoot, spending time in silent reflection while emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and peace among different religions.
During the visit, Pope Leo was received by the mosque’s rector, Mohamed Mamoun Al Qasim, and he also expressed his personal and intellectual connection with Augustine of Hippo, a prominent Christian theologian from Algeria, highlighting the historical and religious significance of the moment.
Speaking on the occasion, Pope Leo said that seeking closeness to God also means respecting every human being and embracing coexistence, as these values are essential for promoting peace and harmony in societies.
