US Vice President JD Vance has stated that negotiations with Iran are ongoing, and President Donald Trump is seeking not a limited or temporary deal but a comprehensive and long-term agreement.
Speaking at the University of Georgia, Vance said that such high-level talks between the United States and Iran have not taken place in the past 49 years, and decades of mistrust cannot be resolved overnight, although Iranian leadership understood that he was sent with good intentions.
He added that President Trump does not want a small deal, which is why no final agreement has been reached so far, as the United States is aiming for a durable and comprehensive outcome.
Vance said that during his visit to Pakistan, he acknowledged progress in talks but emphasized that a complete agreement has yet to be achieved, and any deal must ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons or engage in state-sponsored terrorism.
He further stated that Trump wants any agreement with Iran to benefit not only the United States but the global community, allowing the Iranian people to become part of the global economy, and if Iran normalizes its conduct, the US would treat it like a normal economic partner.
The US vice president concluded that he feels positive about the current stage of negotiations with Iran and noted that the ceasefire remains in place.
