Chinese Premier Li Qiang has signed a new law aimed at safeguarding the country’s sovereignty, security, and economic interests, which has come into immediate effect and is being seen as a significant policy development.
According to Chinese state media, the law comprises 20 provisions, granting authorities the power to respond to actions by any country against China’s economic interests, citizens, or institutions.
Under the law, a list of foreign individuals and entities involved in actions against China will be prepared, enabling authorities to identify them and take appropriate countermeasures.
Officials say the purpose of the law is to respond effectively to external pressure and protect national interests, with the expectation of strengthening China’s domestic and foreign policy stance.
