US President Donald Trump has announced that Lebanon and Israel have agreed to a 10-day ceasefire, which will come into effect at 5 p.m. U.S. time, corresponding to 2 AM in Pakistan.
In a statement shared on his social media platform Truth Social, President Trump said that he held detailed and constructive discussions with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, resulting in an agreement aimed at promoting peace.
He stated that both leaders agreed to initiate a formal 10-day ceasefire to reduce tensions and create an opportunity for further diplomatic progress in the region.
According to Trump, representatives from Lebanon and Israel met in Washington, DC on Tuesday for the first time in 34 years, with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also present, marking a significant diplomatic development.
He added that Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio have been directed to continue working with both countries to achieve lasting peace.
President Trump described his role in facilitating global conflict resolutions as an honor and expressed hope that this ceasefire would contribute to broader regional stability.
In another statement, Trump said he would invite the Israeli Prime Minister and the Lebanese President to the White House to initiate meaningful dialogue between the two nations for the first time since 1983.
Earlier, Lebanon assured the United Kingdom that all weapons would remain under state control, while British officials announced financial aid to support those displaced by Israeli strikes.
It is noteworthy that Israel has repeatedly stated that disarming Hezbollah is a key condition for any ceasefire, while attacks continued in southern Lebanon during ongoing ceasefire efforts, targeting homes, buildings, and government hospitals, resulting in the death of one civilian.
