Lahore: Punjab Home Department has issued an emergency advisory in response to the increasing incidents of fraud involving WhatsApp hacking and impersonation across the province.
According to the advisory, all administrative departments and law enforcement agencies have been directed to remain alert and ensure timely identification of such incidents to prevent damage to citizens and government systems.
The advisory further warns senior bureaucracy, police officials, and field formations that several recent cases have emerged in which the WhatsApp accounts of serving government officers were hacked.
Officials stated that cyber criminals gained unauthorized access to these accounts and sent fake messages to the officers’ contacts, particularly colleagues and subordinates, requesting urgent financial assistance as part of fraudulent schemes.
