A spokesperson for the Power Division stated that electricity generation from power plants with a combined capacity of around 5,000 megawatts is being affected due to the unavailability of LNG, raising concerns about increased pressure on the country’s energy system.
In a statement regarding the power situation during peak hours on April 27, the spokesperson said that an increase in water discharge from Tarbela Dam during the night led to a noticeable improvement in hydropower generation.
He added that hydropower generation during peak hours last night reached approximately 6,000 megawatts, while the country’s total installed hydropower capacity stands at 11,500 megawatts, indicating that full capacity is not being utilized.
According to the spokesperson, some power plants also saw improved electricity generation through the supply of local gas, which helped add around 100 megawatts to the system.
He further noted that about 500 megawatts of electricity transmission from the southern regions of the country was also made possible, however, the ongoing shortage of LNG continues to impact overall power generation.
