The ruling Labour Party has suffered heavy losses in local elections across the United Kingdom, while the right-wing Reform UK party has emerged as the largest political force with significant gains.
According to reports, Labour lost more than 1,300 seats in England’s local elections, while the party also faced a historic defeat in Wales.
British media reported that results from around 4,500 out of more than 5,000 local council seats have been announced, showing Reform UK leading with more than 1,400 seats.
According to the British Broadcasting Corporation, Labour secured 927 seats in England, placing second, while other traditional major parties also struggled to perform strongly.
Nigel Farage’s right-wing Reform UK party managed to capture several long-standing Labour strongholds, a development being described as a major shift in British politics.
Political analysts say the election results have sparked fresh debate about the UK’s political landscape and raised concerns for traditional political parties.
