Iran has indicated that negotiations on nuclear issues and other matters could begin within 60 days if a potential agreement with the United States is finalized.
Speaking at a press conference, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei said Iran and the United States have reached a framework, but it cannot yet be said that a final agreement between the two countries is imminent.
He stated that Iran is currently engaged in talks aimed at ending the war, but direct discussions on the nuclear issue are not taking place at this stage.
According to Baghaei, if the memorandum of understanding is finalized, negotiations on nuclear matters and other related details could begin within 60 days.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson said the proposed 14-point memorandum focuses on ending the conflict and lifting the US naval blockade, while Iran, in return, would ensure safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
He clarified that Iran would not impose toll taxes in the Strait of Hormuz, although charging service fees for facilities and services is a normal practice and should not be described as a toll.
Baghaei further said that ending conflicts on multiple fronts, including Lebanon, would also be part of the possible agreement.
He added that recent diplomatic progress is the result of weeks of negotiations and diplomatic contacts facilitated through Pakistan’s mediation, while noting that there are currently no plans to send a Pakistani delegation.
