Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that US President Donald Trump played a key role in helping secure a ceasefire between Pakistan and India last year and will be remembered as a “man of peace.”
Speaking at an event marking the 250th anniversary of American independence hosted by the US Mission in Pakistan, the prime minister congratulated the American people and administration on the occasion.
He described the history of the United States as a story of freedom, hope, and progress, while highlighting the long-standing relationship between Pakistan and the US.
According to the prime minister, the two countries have maintained strong cooperation for nearly eight decades in areas including counterterrorism, trade, investment, and education.
Shehbaz Sharif noted that the United States was among the first countries to recognize Pakistan after independence and also contributed significantly to Pakistan’s agricultural development.
He added that thousands of Pakistani students continue to study and receive training in the United States, while around one million Pakistani-Americans contribute positively to American society and the economy.
Referring to tensions between Pakistan and India, the prime minister said President Trump’s intervention helped prevent further escalation and contributed to a ceasefire between the two countries.
He also stated that Pakistan is playing a sincere mediatory role between the United States and Iran and expressed appreciation for the confidence shown by both sides.
The prime minister further praised Syed Asim Munir for his efforts in promoting regional peace, stability, and dialogue.
