Russian President Vladimir Putin rejected a negative characterization of Pakistan during a question from an Indian journalist, saying Pakistan is a major country with relations across the world.
Speaking at the Saint Petersburg Economic Forum, Putin said it would be incorrect to suggest that Pakistan is under the influence of any single country.
He emphasized that Pakistan is an important state with diverse international relationships.
The Russian president also noted that military and defense cooperation between Russia and China has continued for many years and will remain in place.
Commenting on Iran, Putin said Russia enjoys a relationship of trust with Tehran and can help contribute to resolving regional crises.
Regarding Ukraine, he stated that Russia had recently taken control of additional territory but remained prepared to pursue a peaceful resolution through negotiations.
