Pope Leo XIV has criticized global priorities, saying world leaders are spending resources on wars instead of helping people suffering from hunger.
Addressing the governing body of the United Nations World Food Programme in Rome, Pope Leo XIV said the world is facing a serious food crisis while humanitarian needs continue to be overlooked.
He warned that reductions in financial assistance from several countries have created significant challenges for humanitarian programs and vulnerable communities.
The Pope urged governments to increase spending aimed at combating hunger and food insecurity and to avoid restricting food aid based on political or geopolitical considerations.
He also criticized political and administrative barriers that slow down humanitarian assistance while military spending continues to rise without restraint.
According to Pope Leo, global leaders should focus more on humanity, peace and eliminating hunger rather than fueling conflicts and wars.
