Iran’s martyred leader was laid to rest in the courtyard of the shrine of Imam Ali al-Ridha in Mashhad. According to a photograph released by the Iranian Embassy, the accompanying statement said, “The Servant of Reza has returned to the embrace of Reza.”
Earlier, the funeral prayers for Iran’s martyred Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei, were offered in Mashhad. The funeral prayer was led by his elder son, Ayatollah Syed Mostafa Hosseini Khamenei.
Millions of people gathered on the streets of Mashhad to bid a final farewell to the martyred Supreme Leader, as a massive public turnout was witnessed in his honor.
Participants in the funeral procession also chanted slogans calling for revenge for the blood of the martyr. The body of the martyr was brought to Iran from Iraq.
Fighter jets of the Iranian Air Force escorted the aircraft carrying the mortal remains until it arrived safely at Mashhad Airport.
On Wednesday, the body was taken to the shrines of Imam Hussain and Hazrat Abbas in Karbala, and to the shrine of Hazrat Ali in Najaf. More than ten million mourners reportedly participated in the ceremonies across Iraq.
