Punjab Senior Minister Maryam Aurangzeb says the people of Mirpur have voted for the Pakistan Muslim League (N), describing the outcome as a sign that the development of Azad Jammu and Kashmir is linked with the party.
In a post on X, Aurangzeb said the public had already signaled its support for the PML-N during the visit of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to Mirpur on July 24.
She said the latest vote in Mirpur formally reaffirmed the public’s decision in favor of the party and its election symbol, the lion.
According to Aurangzeb, the people of Muzaffarabad had already expressed a similar choice on July 21, while voters across Azad Kashmir would formally endorse that decision in the next phase of polling on August 2.
Meanwhile, unofficial and provisional results from the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections show a closely contested race between the Pakistan Muslim League (N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party.
According to the latest unofficial count, results from 6 of the 13 constituencies have been completed, with the PML-N winning 4 seats and the PPP securing 2 seats.
