Lahore: Prices of vegetables and fruits have risen sharply across Lahore, with shopkeepers reporting an increase of Rs100 to Rs150 per kilogram in several items over the past two weeks.
According to retailers, fruit prices have also climbed significantly, with the cost of fruit crates increasing by between Rs1,000 and Rs2,000 during the same period.
Shopkeepers said pumpkin prices increased from Rs150 to Rs200 per kg, while cauliflower rose from Rs150 to Rs220 per kg.
Cabbage climbed from Rs150 to Rs250 per kg, while fenugreek increased from Rs300 to Rs400 per kg.
Similarly, capsicum prices rose from Rs300 to Rs350 per kg, onions increased from Rs120 to Rs200 per kg, while tomatoes climbed from Rs200 to Rs250 per kg.
Fruit prices have also recorded substantial increases. According to shopkeepers, a six-kilogram carton of peaches is being sold for Rs950, while the price of an apple crate has increased from Rs2,000 to Rs3,000.
A crate of mangoes has risen from Rs3,000 to Rs5,000, while the price of a grape crate has increased from Rs4,500 to Rs5,000.
Retailers said they were already purchasing vegetables and fruits at higher prices from wholesale markets, which had resulted in increased prices for consumers in the retail market.
