Islamabad: Pakistan’s total energy sector circular debt has climbed to Rs5.286 trillion, reflecting mounting financial pressure across the country’s gas and electricity sectors.
According to available figures, the gas sector accounts for the largest share of the overall circular debt, with outstanding liabilities reaching Rs3.611 trillion.
Circular debt in the power sector, meanwhile, stands at Rs1.675 trillion.
Combined, the gas and electricity sectors have accumulated circular debt of Rs5.286 trillion, highlighting the growing financial burden facing Pakistan’s energy sector.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has also pointed to the challenges facing the sector, saying Pakistan’s energy industry remains under financial pressure.
