Former Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan’s arrest and the Chairman’s detention in the Supreme Court were discussed today in a hearing against the request for their arrests.
Chief Justice Omar Ata Bandial is leading a three-member bench, consisting of Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Athar Minallah, to hear the case.
Senior lawyer Hameed Khan, who is part of the legal team of PTI Chairman, informed the court that Imran Khan had appeared before the Islamabad High Court for bail before arrest in a case.
The Chief Justice questioned under which case Imran Khan had appeared before the Islamabad High Court.
Hameed Khan stated that Imran Khan was present for his biometric verification when he was called by the authorities, and the Rangers treated him poorly and arrested him violently.
The Chief Justice said that according to the court record, a request for bail was filed in the high court, but the hearing was not scheduled. The bench will examine the case that was due for hearing.
Hameed Khan argued that a request for bail cannot be filed without a biometric verification.
Justice Athar Minallah remarked that it was unfair to deprive someone of their rights while they were under the court’s jurisdiction.
