Lahore High Court has reserved its decision on the request to halt proceedings in 121 cases against Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Under the leadership of Justice Ali Baqar Najafi, a five-member bench of Lahore High Court heard the arguments on various requests, including the dismissal of cases against Imran Khan.
Imran Khan’s lawyer argued that such a massive number of cases has never been filed against any government in history. The lawyer stated that the primary responsibility of the government is to conduct elections, yet numerous cases have been filed against a person of 71 years.
Justice Anwar-ul-Haq Pannu remarked that Imran Khan’s case is extraordinary, which led to laughter in the courtroom due to the judge’s remarks.
Imran Khan’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, said that even at this age, Imran Khan is fit. He requested to stop the filing of unlawful cases and arrests. If the presentation of video links is allowed, the number of cases will decrease.
The court questioned whether a direction for presenting video links can be given in every case. The court stated that only the relevant court has the authority to decide on the presentation of video links.
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi remarked that nothing new is happening with you; similar presentations were made by leaders in the past.
Later, the court reserved its decision on Imran Khan’s request after the completion of arguments by the lawyers.
