Pakistan and Azerbaijan have announced a significant decision during their mutual cooperation and to resolve the energy crisis. They declared that starting from the next month, the import of liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo will begin in Pakistan.
During his two-day official visit to Azerbaijan, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif informed President Ilham Aliyev that the cabinet has approved the import of LNG from Azerbaijan.
Prime Minister of Pakistan and President of Azerbaijan, during their meeting, also agreed to expand mutual cooperation in various sectors, including energy, agriculture, transportation, defense, investment, and trade.
It was agreed during this visit that Azerbaijan will cooperate in fulfilling Pakistan’s energy requirements and provide assistance in the oil and gas sector.
An agreement was reached on the understanding that Pakistan State Oil (PSO) and an Azerbaijani company, SOCAR, will play a significant role at the governmental level in meeting Pakistan’s energy needs. Azerbaijan has also agreed to exempt the import duty on rice imported from Pakistan.
During the meeting, the President of Azerbaijan stated that Azerbaijan had already granted an exemption from import duty on rice imported from Pakistan.
It was agreed in the meeting that Azerbaijan’s Azar Airlines will operate two flights for Islamabad and Karachi. Azerbaijan will invest in the solar energy sector in Pakistan, and both countries will enhance cooperation in the defense sector.
Furthermore, during a joint press conference with President Ilham Aliyev in Baku, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed his happiness, stating, “We arrived in your great country last night, and since then, we have been receiving pleasant surprises. My brother Nawaz Sharif had said that when you go to Baku, you will be delighted to see the best city.”
