The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted pre-monsoon rains accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in various parts of the country from 25th to 30th June.
According to the statement issued by the Meteorological Department, moist winds from the Arabian Sea are entering the upper and central regions of the country, and there is a possibility of a series of western winds entering the upper regions of the country from 25th June onwards.
The statement mentioned that under the influence of this weather system, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Gilgit, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Sawabi, Nowshera, Karak, Bannu, Lucky Marwat, and Kohat may experience heavy winds, thunderstorms, and lightning with the likelihood of heavy, prolonged rainfall at some places.
The Meteorological Department stated that besides these areas, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Faisalabad, Jhang, and Toba Tek Singh may also experience strong winds, thunderstorms, and lightning with the possibility of heavy, prolonged rainfall at some places.
The statement mentioned that under the influence of this system, Barkhan, Loralai, Zhob, Nasirabad, Qalat, Khuzdar, Dera Bugti, Ziarat, Musa Khel, Dera Ismail Khan, Kohat, Waziristan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, Bhakkar, Layyah, Kot Addu, Bahawalnagar, Pakpattan, and Okara may also experience rainfall accompanied by strong winds, thunderstorms, and in some places, heavy, prolonged rainfall. Under the impact of this weather system, Skardu and Gilgit-Baltistan have the possibility of rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on 27th and 28th June.
The Meteorological Department stated that under the influence of this system, there is a possibility of a decrease in the current heatwave, and in the case of heavy rainfall, there is a concern about urban flooding. Additionally, there is a concern for flash floods in hilly areas. Heavy rainfall can lead to urban flooding in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Gujranwala, and the surrounding areas of Lahore on 26th and 27th June.
