Karachi: Following the outbreaks of the dangerous virus named ‘Nipah’ spreading in neighboring country India, health authorities in Pakistan have issued directives in anticipation of any potential attacks of the virus.
According to the details, due to the concern of the dangerous Nipah virus spreading from India to Pakistan, the Sindh Health Department has issued health advisories.
The Sindh Health Department has directed the concerned staff to remain alert in view of the possible threat of the virus.
In this regard, Director General Health Sindh has sent a letter to all the hospitals in which MS, Directors and staff of Livestock Department have been instructed to be alert.
The Health Department states that the Nipah virus spreads rapidly from animals to humans, and its symptoms include fever, body aches, coma, and other signs. However, as of now, no cases have been reported across Sindh.
What is Nipah virus?
This virus spreads from animals to humans and this dangerous virus was first detected in 1998 in island-like areas of Malaysia among bats and later in pigs.
The mentioned virus first emerged in the Nipah region of Malaysia, which is why it was named after it. Soon, this virus spread among the animals in other areas of the mentioned region.
Later on, the Nipah virus was also found in Australia, affecting various animals including bats and pigs, where some humans also got infected.
In the year 2004, the diagnosis of the Nipah virus was also made in Bangladesh, where initially it affected animals. However, later it was also found in humans.
This virus is believed to be a dangerous virus easily transmitted from animals to humans, while it can also be transmitted from one person to another.
