The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has challenged the initiation of criminal proceedings in the Cipher case in the Islamabad High Court.
In the petition filed by lawyers Salman Safdar and Khalid Yusuf, the plaintiff Yusuf Naseem Khokhar and the state have been made parties,It is contended in the petition that as per law the charge can be framed after 7 days of distribution of trial copy, the trial court did not consider the statutory requirement of 7 days.
The petition states that the High Court did not direct the trial to be heard on a daily basis or to complete it quickly, the trial court hastily framed the charges.
The PTI chairman added in the petition that the trial cannot proceed in the absence of the key evidence, the cipher telegraph,The order of the Official Secrets Act court dated 23rd October should be annulled.
