Recent rains across various parts of the country have brought relief from the intense heat, but they have also posed challenges, particularly in low-lying areas where water has accumulated. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) remains highly alert to manage the situation.
According to a PDMA spokesperson, heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in most divisions of Punjab. Upper and central Punjab will be under the influence of monsoon storms from July 2 to July 7. In line with the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, relevant departments have been instructed to stay vigilant. She emphasized that rescue agencies must remain on high alert during the first week of July and that there is no room for negligence during precautionary measures and duties in the rainy season.
The PDMA spokesperson also warned of the possibility of strong winds and thunderstorms in several districts of southern Punjab, which could result in swollen streams and rivers. The storm might damage electricity poles and solar panels. An alert has been issued to the district administrations in light of the weather forecast.
DG PDMA further stated that the PDMA control room is monitoring the weather situation around the clock. The public is advised to follow official instructions to ensure the safety of lives and property.
