Karachi: The Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, has stated that if the Prime Minister wants to avoid public outrage, he must address public demands, or otherwise, the sit-in movement could jeopardize his premiership.
While addressing the protesters staging a sit-in outside the Governor’s House in Karachi, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman said that if the government does not meet our demands, the protests will spread from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Balochistan.
He criticized the discrepancy between the Prime Minister’s and ministers’ statements, noting that while they claim in meetings that the party’s proposals are feasible, they publicly deny their viability. He emphasized that reducing electricity bills is crucial for the government’s relief.
Hafiz Naeem further stated that salaried individuals are paying Rs. 368 billion in taxes, shouldering the entire burden, while income tax is not being collected from landlords. This situation, he said, is no longer acceptable.
The Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami warned that if the government does not address their demands, the protests will extend from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Balochistan. He urged the Prime Minister to heed public demands to avoid the risk of losing his position.
It is noteworthy that Jamaat-e-Islami is also continuing its sit-in in Rawalpindi against IPPs (Independent Power Producers), high electricity prices, and additional taxes on the salaried class, while another sit-in is ongoing outside the Governor’s House in Karachi.
