Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, while speaking on the issue of canal water distribution in the National Assembly, said that not a single drop of Sindh’s water will be taken. The Prime Minister has formed a committee under my leadership on this matter, and consensus has been reached on many issues. If there is any delay in this project, let it be, but there must be consensus.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar said that often, due to emotional statements and reactions, misunderstandings arise. The Prime Minister has formed a committee under my leadership on this matter, and there are many things on which consensus has already been reached.
He said that not a single drop of Sindh’s water will be taken. If there is any delay in this project, let it be, but there must be consensus.
Information Minister Atta Tarar said that the 1991 water distribution agreement bears the signatures of all provinces. There is law and a complete system in place. The issue of canals is a technical one and will be discussed. We do not believe in bulldozing.
Qadir Patel said that PTI members who walked out should not claim they stand with Sindh on the water issue. My constituency is by the sea—take as much water as needed from there. But don’t allow those rejected by the people to come back again.
He said that now every person who doesn’t get free tea and water is protesting outside press clubs on this important issue.
Raja Pervaiz Ashraf said that the people of Sindh have concerns that water is not being fairly distributed. All units should work together with consensus, which brings blessings.
PPP’s Shazia Marri said that we are taunted for doing politics on water. We are afraid that chaos is being spread in the country.
Shazia Marri said that when a statement is issued by the government of any province, it should not be taken lightly. At present, the sea has swallowed thousands of acres of land. It is extremely painful when it is said that downstream water is being wasted.
Member of the National Assembly Khawaja Izhar-ul-Hassan said that we heard a resolution was being brought on the water issue. We are not getting a single drop from the rivers Sutlej, Beas, and others. We are the descendants of those who settled near the sea. We, the people of Karachi, are not getting water.
Earlier, under the chairmanship of Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, a meeting of the House Business Advisory Committee of the National Assembly was held, in which it was decided to continue the current session of the National Assembly till April 18.
