The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) for an increase in electricity prices.
The petition has been filed under the monthly fuel price adjustment for April, and NEPRA will decide on the CPPA’s request after a hearing on May 29. The petition recommends an increase of Rs. 1.27 per unit in electricity prices.
According to CPPA, 10.513 billion units of electricity were generated nationwide in April 2025, while 10.196 billion units were supplied to distribution companies.
The report states that the average electricity production cost in April was Rs. 8.94 per unit, while the reference cost was set at Rs. 7.68 per unit. In April, 21.94% of electricity was generated from hydropower, 14.51% from local coal, 10.02% from imported coal, 0.97% from furnace oil, 8.01% from local gas, 20.52% from imported LNG, and 17.91% from nuclear fuel.
