Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif delivered a significant message during the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit, highlighting global challenges and the path to regional development. He emphasized that rapid technological changes are shaping the modern era, and technological advancement is essential for regional prosperity.
Congratulating Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on successfully hosting the summit, the Prime Minister stated that Pakistan is actively engaged in collective efforts with ECO member states. He described climate change as a major challenge for the region, noting that Pakistan is among the top ten countries most affected by climate change, and stressed the need for joint action.
To address environmental challenges, the Prime Minister proposed reducing carbon emissions, establishing a carbon market platform, and developing resilient systems. He emphasized that activating climate financing is crucial for sustainable development and urged the acceleration of energy corridors and eco-tourism projects.
On regional security, the Prime Minister condemned Israeli attacks on Iran as illegal and irrational, saying they were attempts to destabilize the region. Referring to Indian provocations in occupied Kashmir, he stated that Pakistan’s armed forces responded with professionalism.
He also expressed serious concern over India’s violations of the Indus Waters Treaty, stating that water is a lifeline for the people of Pakistan, and such actions by India amount to aggression.
Welcoming the launch of ECO transport corridors, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said the region should be strengthened on the foundation of historical harmony. He expressed solidarity with the oppressed people of Gaza and occupied Kashmir, affirming that Pakistan will always raise its voice for their rights.
The Prime Minister urged all member countries to enhance unity and cooperation to build a better future for the region.
