The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has challenged the allocation of reserved seats in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in the Peshawar High Court, seeking to nullify the Election Commission’s notification and requesting a stay on the oath-taking of the newly allocated members.
Filed through Barrister Saqib Raza, the petition argues that the Election Commission’s allocation of reserved seats was unfair and has infringed upon the party’s constitutional and legal rights.
The petition states that Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (F) was granted 10 reserved seats against 7 general seats, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, which also holds 7 seats in the assembly, was only allotted 8 reserved seats. According to the petitioner, PML-N had initially won 6 seats in the province, but an independent candidate joined the party within three days, increasing their total to 7. However, the Election Commission based its allocation of reserved seats on just 6 seats.
The petition requests the court to nullify the Election Commission’s notification on reserved seats and to order a fresh allocation. It also asks the court to restrain the members from taking oath on the disputed reserved seats until a final decision is made.
