Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has formally approved the Provincial Motor Vehicles Amendment Bill 2025, which has now come into immediate effect. The legislation has been introduced with the primary objective of ensuring public safety and maintaining order on the roads.
According to the new law, strict legal action will be taken against violations of the Motor Vehicles Act. The amendments introduce tougher conditions for the issuance of heavy vehicle driving licenses, making it mandatory for applicants of LTV (Light Transport Vehicle) and HTV (Heavy Transport Vehicle) licenses to undergo a pre-licensing training course.
Additionally, the bill introduces a demerit point system for drivers. Under this system, points will be recorded against drivers for traffic violations, and if the points exceed a certain threshold, their driving license may be suspended or cancelled.
The Chief Minister’s House confirmed that the bill has been enacted under Article 116 of the Constitution and has been enforced immediately. Meanwhile, it has also been indicated that the issuance date for new motorcycle number plates in Sindh is likely to be extended.
Through this legislation, the Sindh government has made it clear that no leniency will be shown in matters of public safety, and strict action will be taken against drivers who violate traffic regulations.
