KARACHI: Due to a number of processions and events planned in conjunction with Eid Milad un Nabi (Peace Be Upon Him), which falls on September 6, the Karachi Traffic Police have prohibited heavy traffic in the city on Rabi ul Awal 11 and 12.
The traffic police said the decision was made to protect public safety and that rallies will take place on roads and link roads.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi is observed annually with religious fervor and zeal, and it is accompanied by a number of public processions and events that take place all over the nation, including Karachi.
In light of the numerous traffic accidents that have occurred in Karachi this year, many of which have resulted in fatalities and frequently prompted angry people to set fire to the involved vehicles, the city has banned heavy traffic.
Authorities have announced a number of safety measures in response to the startlingly high number of high-speed dumper truck accidents that have resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries in recent months.
Calls for stronger enforcement of current traffic laws and major upgrades to the city’s road infrastructure in order to stop more tragedies have increased as a result of this ongoing crisis.
More than 555 people have died in traffic-related incidents in Karachi so far in 2025, with 169 of those deaths occurring in heavy traffic accidents.
Police report that 63 people were killed after being struck by trailers, and 34 people lost their lives in accidents involving dumpers.
37 and 35 people lost their lives in water tanker and bus accidents, respectively.
