Karachi: With heavy rainfall expected in the next 24 to 48 hours, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed the city’s administration and municipal bodies to remain on high alert. Acting on his orders, Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah issued instructions from the Commissioner’s control room, urging officials to stay fully prepared in the field.
The chief secretary emphasized that all deputy commissioners and municipal staff must ensure public safety and take immediate measures for drainage and water clearance during the rain spell.
Karachi Commissioner further directed assistant commissioners and municipal commissioners to inspect storm drains and drainage systems without delay. He stressed that the necessary machinery must be deployed in advance to avoid flooding and ensure public convenience. Traffic police have also been tasked with keeping traffic flow smooth to prevent disruption for commuters.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed it has completed its preparations. DG PDMA Salman Shah reviewed dewatering pumps installed on Shahrah-e-Faisal and Drigh Road, expressing satisfaction with their performance. He said that 13 pumps have been set up across the city, with an additional three pumps kept ready for emergency deployment.
Salman Shah noted that PDMA staff are fully alert and ready to handle any situation, cautioning citizens to avoid unnecessary travel as intermittent rainfall is expected over the coming days.
