In response to the recent devastating floods across the country, the government has decided to develop a new action plan and policy aimed at controlling urban flooding. The Ministry of Climate Change has become fully active following the worsening flood situation nationwide.
According to officials from the Ministry of Climate Change, the Prime Minister has directed the ministry to take immediate steps against urban flooding and unchecked deforestation. The Prime Minister has also instructed provincial governments to prepare targets for the Climate Resilience Action Plan to mitigate future risks.
Officials confirmed that the Ministry of Climate Change will coordinate closely with the provinces on the Climate Resilience Action Plan. Consultations will be held with provincial authorities regarding strategies to curb urban flooding and deforestation. The ministry will also seek input from the provinces to ensure a collaborative approach.
Furthermore, efforts will focus on improving drainage systems in urban areas. The ministry will engage provinces in dialogue over policy measures to prevent deforestation and formulate strategies aimed at reducing the threat of future floods.
