Pakistan’s Foreign Office has confirmed that important talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban will be held today in Doha, the capital of Qatar.
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, a high-level Pakistani delegation led by the Minister of Defence will hold negotiations with representatives of the Afghan Taliban in Doha. The discussions will focus on bilateral security concerns and regional stability.
The spokesperson stated that the talks will specifically address cross-border terrorism originating from Afghan territory and emphasize the need for immediate measures to restore peace and stability along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The spokesperson further said that Pakistan does not seek conflict and has urged the Afghan Taliban to honor their commitments to the international community and address Pakistan’s security concerns.
He added that the Afghan Taliban should take verifiable action against terrorist groups, including TTP and BLA, and play their part in ensuring regional security.
The Foreign Office appreciated Qatar’s mediation efforts, expressing hope that the dialogue would help promote lasting peace and stability in the region.
