ISLAMABAD: The District and Sessions Court in Islamabad has issued arrest warrants for former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur in the liquor and arms recovery case. Senior Civil Judge Mubashir Hassan Chishti heard the case, but Gandapur once again failed to appear before the court.
In view of his repeated absence, the court ordered his arrest and directed authorities to produce him in court. The next hearing has been scheduled for October 28. A case against Gandapur is registered at Bhara Kahu Police Station.
It is worth noting that the Islamabad court has issued several arrest warrants for Ali Amin Gandapur since July, but he has not appeared at any hearing. Earlier, his absence was attributed to his responsibilities as chief minister, but he has since resigned from the post.
On September 10, the court had also issued arrest warrants and ordered his appearance on September 17. His lawyer, Raja Zahoorul Hassan, requested the court to cancel the warrants, but the judge stated that the warrants would only be withdrawn if the accused appeared in court.
The defense counsel argued that the matter had already received media coverage, causing embarrassment to the accused. However, during today’s hearing, the court rejected the request to suspend the warrants and adjourned the case till October 28.
