The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a major relief for K-Electric consumers by reducing electricity tariffs by Rs 7.60 per unit. The decision was announced following a review of the utility’s multi-year tariff petitions for the fiscal years 2024 to 2030.
According to NEPRA’s decision, K-Electric’s average tariff has been reduced from Rs 39.97 per unit to Rs 32.37 per unit. This reduction will apply to all segments of the company’s operations, including generation, transmission, distribution, and supply.
The decision also stated that NEPRA’s previous stance on the right of claims remains unchanged. Although the tariff has been significantly reduced, a burden of Rs 50 billion under the right of claims has been maintained to ensure that the company’s financial requirements and future development plans are not affected.
A K-Electric spokesperson said the company is reviewing the decision in detail and assessing its legal and operational implications. The spokesperson added that the decision will impact various areas of the company’s business, including generation, transmission, distribution, and supply.
K-Electric reaffirmed its commitment to continue efforts to provide better and more reliable services to its consumers and indicated that it may file an appeal with the relevant forums if needed.
