Lahore has once again ranked among the world’s most polluted cities, raising serious concerns over the environmental situation in the region.
According to the global air quality monitoring organization IQAir, Lahore was the second most polluted city in the world on Thursday, while India’s capital, New Delhi, topped the list. The air pollution level in New Delhi was recorded at 239, followed by Lahore at 237 and Karachi at 179, highlighting dangerously high pollution levels in major urban centers.
Fresh data from the Punjab Air Quality Index showed that Dera Ghazi Khan was the most polluted city in the province, with an AQI level of 461. Gujranwala recorded 421, Faisalabad 287, Lahore 271, and Sheikhupura 260, reflecting a widespread environmental challenge across multiple cities.
Within Lahore, air pollution levels varied across different areas. The highest AQI was recorded at Multan Road at 411, followed by DHA Phase 6 at 380, Kahna at 314, Shahdara at 313, Burki Road at 257, and near Safari Park at 246.
According to IQAir, pollution levels in other areas of Lahore were also dangerously high, with Burki Road recording an AQI of 474, Ravi Road 336, Bedian Road 322, and Shadman Market 291.
Environmental experts have warned that this level of air pollution poses serious risks to human health, particularly for children, the elderly, and people with respiratory conditions. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and take strict precautionary measures.
