KARACHI: The e-challan system in Karachi has completed its first 30 days, during which more than 93,000 digital challans were issued for various traffic violations. Using surveillance cameras and digital tracking tools, the traffic police recorded a significant number of offenses in the initial month of the system.
According to official data, the highest number of penalties—57,541—were imposed for not wearing seat belts. Additionally, 22,227 motorcyclists were fined for riding without helmets. Speed-tracking devices installed in dumpers, trailers, and water tankers led to 1,188 challans, while 2,699 fines were issued to other vehicles for overspeeding.
A total of 3,102 challans were recorded for violating traffic signals. Moreover, 1,278 vehicles were fined for fancy number plates, while 1,178 were penalized for tinted windows. Another 611 drivers were fined for stop-line violations, and 426 for driving the wrong way.
According to the traffic police, fines amounting to Rs 575.41 million were collected for not wearing seat belts, Rs 111.35 million from motorcyclists without helmets, and Rs 29.45 million for tinted windows, reflecting the system’s effective enforcement during its first operational month.
