LAHORE: Air pollution across several cities of Punjab continues to worsen, with fresh data indicating that hazardous levels persist in multiple urban centers. As of this morning, Faisalabad recorded an alarming 563 particulate matter reading, making it the most polluted city in Punjab.
According to a global environmental monitoring website, Gujranwala registered an AQI of 422, placing it firmly in the “hazardous” category. Lahore recorded an AQI of 202 on the same platform, ranking it as the fifth most polluted major city in the world today.
However, the Punjab Environment Department’s official website shows different readings for the province. According to the department, Lahore stands at an AQI of 389—making it the most polluted city in Punjab at the moment. Faisalabad recorded an AQI of 359, while Narowal stood at 324, all falling within the dangerously polluted zone.
Globally accepted standards classify AQI levels between 151 and 200 as unhealthy and 201–300 as very unhealthy, while anything above 301 is deemed “hazardous,” posing severe health risks. The latest figures underline that residents in multiple Punjab cities are being exposed to critically harmful air quality.
