Lahore has once again maintained its position at the top of the global list of the world’s most polluted cities, where the air quality has been recorded as extremely concerning and at an intolerable level. The environmental conditions in various parts of the country also remained highly hazardous for health, exposing citizens to serious medical risks.
According to the latest data from an international environmental monitoring platform, the air pollution measurement in Lahore, known as the Air Quality Index (AQI), remained at 342 points. Based on this reading, the city retained its status as the most polluted major city in the world.
The same report indicates that Peshawar emerged as the most polluted city within the country with an AQI of 435. In Faisalabad, the pollution index was recorded at 278 points, a clear sign of a dangerously deteriorated air quality level in the region.
According to statistics from the Punjab Environment Protection Department, the AQI in other major cities of the province was recorded at 279 for Narowal, 251 for Sheikhupura, and 236 for Khanewal. These figures confirm the escalating severity of air pollution impacts in these areas.
