The Sindh government has formally written to the federal authorities, seeking action for the arrest of extortionists operating from abroad, following a surge in complaints from builders and traders across Karachi. The move is expected to accelerate the ongoing crackdown against those involved in extortion-related activities.
According to details, increasing pressure from the business and construction sectors has prompted the provincial authorities to intensify their efforts. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah stated that extortionists hiding overseas will not be spared under any circumstances, adding that continuous coordination with federal institutions is underway to ensure these individuals are brought to justice.
Meanwhile, SSP SIU Dr. Imran revealed that operations against extortion networks are being carried out daily. He stated that more than 50 suspects have been arrested so far this year, while approximately 170 complaints have been received, which are currently at different stages of investigation.
He further explained that one extortionist was killed in an encounter on Friday morning, and crucial data—including contact numbers of various traders and evidence of extortion demands—was recovered from his mobile phone.
Dr. Imran added that out of the 10 cases highlighted by the builders’ association (ABAD), only 3 were formally registered, while 5 incidents were never reported. Additionally, two new cases emerged in recent days, and investigation teams have already begun working on them.
